Be the Peace Institute made a written submission to the pre-budget consultations in advance of the Federal Budget for 2023.
These recommendations outline our identified priorities for spending to help end GBV based on our many years of experience in the field, collaborating with front line, community-based services and support, intersecting government departments, academic researchers and what we have heard from survivours themselves.
As we are a project based nonprofit and do not offer direct front line services, we rely on our partnerships and research which direct our advocacy on needed system change.
We know the economic impact of domestic violence (DV) alone is estimated at $7.4 billion annually in Canada. We also know GBV continues to be a major human rights and public health and safety issue and rates have remained largely unchanged for a decades. It is time to prioritize significant investment in the prevention of GBV.
